Solar Battery

Solar Battery

What is a solar battery?

Loving your solar panels, but don’t want to keep relying on the grid at night or on cloudy days? A solar battery is the perfect solution. It stores the energy your solar panels generate during the day, so you can use it when you need it the most.

Solar battery explained

Store energy to use later.

Save on your energy bills.

Lower your carbon footprint.

Benefits

Adding a solar battery is a great step if you want to:

Maximise Your Savings: The average three-bedroom house can save an extra £582 a year by adding a solar battery, as it allows you to use your own generated electricity instead of buying it from the grid at peak times.

Become Energy-Independent: By storing your own power, you can reduce your reliance on the grid and protect yourself from rising electricity prices.

Backup Power: A solar battery is a lifesaver during a power outage, ensuring you can keep essential appliances like lights and refrigerators running.

Reduce Your Carbon Emissions: By using more of your own clean, renewable energy, a solar battery can help you further cut your carbon footprint by an average 7%.

Install a solution for years to come: Modern lithium-ion batteries typically have a lifespan of 10-15 years and come with excellent warranties.

What do solar batteries look like and where will they fit in your house?

Solar batteries are compact units. They are typically around one metre wide and one to two metres tall, depending on how much power they produce. This is about the size of an average fridge freezer.

Our advisers can help you find the best location for your solar battery. You can store them anywhere in your home. The battery is wired neatly to your solar panels, keeping things organised. Most people prefer to keep them in their garage, utility room or in a cupboard.

How it works

A solar battery stores the excess energy produced by your solar panels. It is very useful because on a sunny day, your solar panels produce more electricity than your home is using. This extra power is automatically diverted to the battery to charge it. When it's dark, cloudy, or you need more energy than you're producing, you can use it to power your home

How It Fits in Your Home

Solar batteries are compact, modern units, typically about the size of a fridge-freezer. They are designed for indoor installation and can be neatly wired into your existing solar panel system. The battery size you need depends on your energy consumption. A typical one- or two-bedroom home might need a 2-4 kWh battery, while a three-bedroom house often requires around 8 kWh of storage.

Where should you install it? Most people choose to install their solar battery in a garage, utility room, or a dedicated cupboard. Our advisors can help you find the best place for it in your specific home. We primarily use lithium-ion batteries as they are more compact, efficient, and last longer.
