Have an electric vehicle or are considering buying one? A home EV charging point is a safe, fast, and convenient way to power your car. It gives you the freedom to charge overnight and avoid the hassle and cost of public charging stations.

EV charging explained

Get a government grant to help pay for a charger.

Charge your car when electricity is cheaper.

Lower your carbon emissions.

The Benefits

Installing a home EV charging point is an investment that delivers both convenience and significant savings, along with other benefits:

Cost Savings: Charging your EV at home is significantly cheaper than using public chargers. On average, you can save around £467 per year by charging at home.

Ultimate Convenience: A home charger allows you to simply plug in your car overnight, so it's ready for a full day's travel by morning.

Increased Safety and Speed: A dedicated home charger is a safer, faster, and more efficient option than using a standard domestic socket, which is not recommended.

Environmental Impact: By pairing your EV charger with a renewable energy source such as solar panels, you can further reduce your carbon footprint and drive on entirely clean energy.

Grants and Incentives: You may be eligible for a government grant, such as the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant, which covers up to 75% of the cost of a home charger (max £350).

What does an EV charger look like and where does it fit in your house?

EV chargers are small boxes that fit to the outside wall of your home, usually near where you park your car.

There is a charging cable attached to the box that plugs into your vehicle.

The size of a charger depends on its charging power.

  • Slow chargers are about the size of a book.

  • Fast chargers are about the size of a tablet.

  • Rapid chargers are about the size of a fridge.

EV chargers connect to your home’s electricity from the outside, so they don’t take up any space inside your home.
